Amy Winehouse Biography

Her full name is Amy Jade Winehouse, those most know her by Amy Winehouse. She is a well known singer/songwriter and is best known for her legal battles,drug and alcohol addiction and huge 60's styled hair. She is the first British singer to win 5 Grammy awards. Some of her hit songs include "Rehad," "Love is a Losing Game," and "Stronger Than Me." She is probably best known for her two albums, Frank and Back to Black. Her notable physical traits are striking features and long dark hair. Otherwise, she is plagued by substance abuse and mental health issues.

Amy Winehouse was born on 14 September 1983. She is a well known singer, widely recognized for her powerful voice. She received her first guitar at age 13 and was writing her own music shortly thereafter. She attended Susi Earnshaw Theatre School and Sylvia Young Theatre School until she was expelled. She also attended BRIT School in Selhurst and Ashmole School. She and her then boyfriend formed a band and submitted a demo to an A&R representative and they were signed to Island/Universal record label. A series of events happened, then her first album was released in 2003.

Feb 2008 saw Amy Jade Winehouse honoured with 5 of the US Recording Academy’s most prestigious awards: Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best New Artist, Song of the Year (Rehab) and Record of the Year (Rehab) at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. This incredible haul makes Amy the first ever British female artist to win 5 Grammys in one night and sees her join Lauryn Hill (1998), Alicia Keys (2001), Norah Jones (2002) and Beyonce (2003) in the elite band of female artists who have won 5 awards in one evening.

Due to her recent drug and alcohol battles,her career was put on hold but plans of working on another album are in the works this year. Amy Winehouse is said to want to record her next album in a language of the Caribbean, Kwyl, a dialect of St Lucia. The news as of 12 July 2009 stated she had not decided exactly how to proceed, but she was working on it.
